Background

The Indonesia–Malaysia–Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT) represents a dynamic subregional cooperation framework aimed at accelerating economic development, strengthening connectivity, and enhancing cross-border collaboration among its member provinces. As the region continues to evolve, the demand for infrastructure development, industrial expansion, and integrated economic growth has increased significantly.

Engineering plays a critical role in translating development strategies into implementable projects. However, a key challenge remains in bridging the gap between engineering concepts and investment-ready infrastructure projects, particularly in cross-border contexts where coordination, financing structures, and stakeholder alignment are essential.

In response to this need, the Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM) Penang Branch is organising the IMT-GT Engineering Economy Convention 2026 as a strategic platform to connect engineering, investment, and regional development priorities

The IMT-GT Engineering Economy Convention (EEC) 2026 aims to serve as a regional platform to strengthen collaboration between governments, development banks, investors, engineering professionals, and industry leaders in advancing infrastructure development and economic growth within the IMT-GT subregion.
